It appears I have lost the domain for the time being. I registered for renewal, have a receipt, but the wound up in the hands of GoDaddy (Google's registrar). Curiously, my credit card was never charged.
That's the downside of using proxy registrar (aka GoDaddy). You actually never own the domain name, they register it in their own name and in turn allow you the rights to use it.
Unfortunately, there's no support for available for blogger.com. What can you expect from a free service. I guess since I paid for the domain originally I would expect to have been provided an email address or support form.
In the meantime, I'm back to the original sub-domain name.
